Ship

Constructed according to ancient techniques towards the end of winter 2001/2002 by Mr. Kai Linde (www.kailinde.no) in the town of Rognan, our Knarr will be ready to set out in May.

A traditional boat of Nordland, a district of the Lofoten Islands of Norway, with a square sail and handled in the same way as the Vikings did 900 years ago, 20 feet long, it will be constructed of oak and pine and carry 180 Kg of ballast.

We will be helping with the construction, namely in sowing the sails, which will be of linen edged with hemp, hemp also being used for all ropage on board. These vessels are conceived as all weather fishing boats, although the absence of a cockpit will force us to bail out constantly and to wear modern waterproofs.
